When your car breaks down it is never fun. It is often scary, frustrating, and inconvenient. Every car is different based on make, model, year, and how it is driven. Therefore, each and every car has its own unique problems. However, there are some common breakdown causes that a lot of drivers face. Today we are going to highlight three of those causes: A flat or faulty battery, damaged tires or wheels, and electrical problems. So, let us get started.
A flat or faulty battery: Battery trouble is often the main cause of breakdown issues. You can tell if your battery is worn out if your car takes longer than usual to start, does not start when you turn the key or push the start button, or obviously when your car displays the red battery warning light when you are driving. The best way to keep your battery running well is to simply drive it regularly. Charging the battery overnight every so often might help extend its life as well.
Damaged tires or wheels: Punctures to tires are a very common cause of breakdowns. We understand that you are not intentionally running over nails and fast-approaching and hard to see pot holes but we do suggest being aware of the streets you choose to drive on. Backroads, unpaved roads, and dirt roads are known for debris and lots of dangerous bumps in the road. So be careful. That being said, poorly maintained tires are more likely to give you issues. Poorly maintained tires can be avoided by simply checking your tires regularly, making sure they have a tread depth of at least 1.6mm, making sure that they are inflated to the right pressure.
Electrical problems: Your car’s electrical system includes a wide range of circuits controlling everything from the headlights to the stereo. If you do not know cars that well the easiest thing to do is to ask an expert for help. A trained mechanic can run a full analysis of the electrical system and advise you on what the problem might be and what to do next. Do not risk driving with major electrical problems! It puts you and other drivers at a great risk. Take care of all electrical problems immediately.
The sections above are common breakdown causes that many drivers face. There are, of course, more causes but these are the most common ones. If your car is acting funny and you think it might be breaking down check your battery, check your tires and wheels, and get any electrical problem looked at right away.
