Electric vehicles, or EVs for short, used to be the brand new toy. The shiny new piece of technology that everybody wanted. It used to be new. It used to be only Tesla. But this year, 2021, is expected to change that. As a whole, U.S. EV sales are expected to rise from 1.9% in 2020 to 2.5% this year. According to the car shopping website Edmunds, consumers can expect to see a deluge of new models entering the market within the next 11 months. 30 EVs from 21 brands, up from 17 models in 2020.

So, which brands can we expect to take over the EV market starting this year? Well, that is hard to say because there are so many brands competing to be the best EV manufacturer of the future. Here is a list of some of the brands that are expected to make a push for the best EVs and what they have done this year to jumpstart their EV future.

Jaguar Land Rover:

Jaguar Land Rover has committed to an “all-electric luxury brand” by 2025. According to the company, future Jaguar models will be built exclusively on a pure electric architecture. Their current EV is the I-PACE. Global sales totaled 7,807 in 2020 and are expected to increase significantly in 2021.

Ford Motor:

Earlier this year Ford pledged to spend $1 billion to overhaul its factory in Germany, as a base for electric vehicle production. Two-thirds of Ford’s commercial vehicle sales are expected to be all-electric or plug-in hybrids by 2030.

General Motors:

This auto giant has vowed that 40% of U.S. models will be battery electric vehicles by the end of 2025. By 2035, the majority of GM vehicles will be EVs. Their current models, the Bolt hatchback and the Bolt EUV recently got a redesign and those sales are expected to increase. Global sales of the Bolt EV have topped 100,000 since its market launch in 2017.

In short, the car market is changing rapidly and EVs are the future. It is no longer just Tesla. Classic brands are entering the EV market and making big changes in hopes of winning the booming EV market. Keep your eye out for more EVs in the near future. They are coming and being released quickly. They are the future and are beginning to change the car market for good.
