As we all continue to shelter in place and practice social distancing, many industries continue to suffer. One of those industries is the auto industry and although seen as a flashy, rich, and wealthy brand, Mercedes-Benz is included in that demographic. Mercedes-Benz saw a strong sales start at the beginning of 2020. Bolstered by their SUV lineup, they were expecting to surpass BMW for this years luxury sales king in the U.S. However, the coronavirus pandemic hit and caused all sorts of supply disruptions and a severe slowdown in dealer showroom traffic that affected sales. This led to Mercedes-Benz ending their first quarter down 4.3%.
However, Mercedes-Benz is trying their best to keep their head held high and stay positive. Daimler expects the operating profits for its Mercedes-Benz Cars & Vans division to outperform 2019 for the year. This bold prediction comes in spite of an expected operating loss during the second quarter of this year. Part of this positive and uplifting movement is also offering their customers some help. Mercedes-Benz has offered financial relief to existing customers in the form of payment deferrals. They have also offered up its European manufacturing facilities to produce medical equipment to treat patients with the coronavirus. Mercedes-Benz is even using their large social media platform to educate their customers on COVID-19 and share positive messages. Mercedes-Benz has not announced new vehicle incentives, but they have stepped up their efforts to draw attention to their current special offers.
Everyone is trying their best to stay positive and we need you to be part of the team. Let us work together to get through this pandemic and to get back up on our feet. Stay positive, know that this pandemic will pass, and before you know it things will be back to normal.
