We here at Midtown Autoworks love everything Mercedes-Benz. We will tell you every reason to get yourself one because it is one of our favorite car brands as a whole. That being said, we have to keep you, our readers and customers, informed on some of the not so good things about Mercedes-Benz. Unfortunately, today we are going to give you everything you need to know about the recent Mercedes-Benz recall for their backup cameras.

A few weeks ago, Mercedes-Benz recalled 342,366 of their coupes, convertibles, sedans, and SUVs from the 2019 through 2021 model years. The recall was for faulty backup cameras.

Customers reported that when the reverse gear was engaged, faulty software caused the feed from the backup camera to fail to be displayed in the infotainment system’s display screen. In other cases, the system rebooted, causing the image to disappear completely. This caused a major problem because there was an increased risk of crash or injury if the image did not appear when the vehicle was in reverse. Additionally, the vehicles would run afoul of federal safety standards.

The good news is that Mercedes-Benz is on it. Mercedes-Benz is in the process of updating the multimedia/infotainment system in the affected vehicles at no cost to the vehicle owner. Because this is a software problem the update can be performed by an over the air update which does not require the vehicle to be brought into a dealership.

To see if your Mercedes-Benz was recalled, go to the Mercedes-Benz website, find the “Recall Information” page, and simply enter your 17-digit VIN number.

We hope all Mercedes-Benz drivers are safe while behind the wheel and hope to keep you as updated as possible on recalls such as this one.
