The last thing you want is to have your car breakdown. Whether you are on the freeway or getting ready to drive to work in the morning, there is no ideal time for your car to stop working. And of course, you never see it coming so it always tends to be a surprise. However, if you keep an eye on these three things, the chances of your car breaking down will decrease significantly.
Start with your engine. If your check engine light comes on you need to get it looked at. The check engine light can mean many different things – some simple enough to fix yourself while others require a trip to a mechanic. Common reasons for a check engine light coming on is a faulty oxygen sensor, spark plug or coil issues, mass airflow sensor fault, catalytic converter problems, or a loose petrol cap. Read the service schedule and stick to it to keep your engine in tip-top shape.
You also need to monitor your tires. There is always construction, people, and debris on the road. Freeways, parking lots, and neighborhoods all have things on the road that can harm your tires. It is a good idea to set a reminder on your phone to check your tire pressure. We recommend doing so at least once a month. The sticker on the inside panel of the driver side door is the recommended PSI.
Lastly, you need to make sure your battery is in good shape. Extreme temperatures put extra stress on the battery and can cause battery fluid to evaporate. Get your battery checked by a professional to make sure things like the alternator and starter are working properly.
Breaking down is a such a headache and the last thing you want to deal with. So, to prevent breakdowns the most effective things you can do is get your car’s engine, tires, and battery checked on a regular basis.
