Driving around with a cracked windshield is one of the most dangerous things you can do. Your windshield prevents foreign objects like dust, dirt, and grime from entering your car. It prevents the roof from caving in and prevents the glare from the sun. Care for your windshield as you do the rest of your car. Maintaining it regularly overtime will prevent major mishaps and could save you from spending lots of money.

As mentioned before, do not leave chips or cracks unrepaired. Even if they are small, with time, they could spread in size and compromise your visibility as a driver. It is crucial to take every nick seriously early on because the bigger the damage, the more expensive it will be so do not wait!

Another way to maintain your windshield is to make sure you are using good windshield wipers. Wiper blades degrade over time due to things like wear and tear, debris, moisture, and sunlight. If the rubber coating on the outside wears down, you run the risk of scratching your windshield with the metal part of your car’s wiper blades. Replace them every six months or so to protect your windshield from scratches.

Last but not least, do not slam your doors. This tip is not rocket science but needs to be said. Slamming car doors lead to serious vibrations inside the car and the windows including the windshield become loose and they can come off their tracks. Additionally, if your glass already has small nicks, they will grow and little by little the damage will get worse. So, make it a habit of closing your doors gently.

If you follow the tips above religiously, you might not ever have to change your windshield. Treat your windshield with care as you do every other part of your car and you will save yourself time and money down the line. For more information, please reach out to us here at Midtown Autoworks.
