Happy New Year from all of us here at Midtown Autoworks. We are relieved that 2020 is over and we are excited to welcome 2021. The holidays might be over but winter has just begun. That means the mountains are white and your next snow trip is right around the corner. To help you prepare for the snow today we are going to talk a little bit about these devices.

They are almost always needed when driving in the snow. Snow chains give your car traction in the snow. Without them your wheels will just spin and you could end up stuck. Nobody wants that. So, the first thing you need to do is get yourself some snow chains. Snow chains can be found at almost every auto parts store. Be careful though because with it being the busy season, many stores are running out and they might not have them in stock. So, we advise you to try and get a hold of snow chains at least one week before your trip.

Also, remember that every car has different kinds of tires. There are different sized models designed for different sized tires. If your car has uncommon sized tires, then it might be harder to find the proper size. Again, just plan ahead. Do not walk into an auto parts store the day you are driving to the snow looking to purchase chains. Chances are, they will not have it in stock and will have to order you some for a few days later.

Lastly, we recommend getting your snow chains early because it takes practice getting them on your tires. Practice putting them on in your driveway before the snow comes to make yourself familiar with how to use them, where you need to position yourself under the car, and test how far you need to drive over the chains to get them in the best position. There are plenty of YouTube videos and instructional guides that can help you through the process.

Going to the snow is always fun but make sure you are prepared.  Getting stuck is the last thing you want as it will ruin your entire trip.
