It is officially summer and as always, things are heating up. Sacramento hit a daily record of 109 degrees earlier this summer and temperatures are expected to continue to hit triple digits. That being said it is important to protect your car from the excessive summer heat as driving in high temperatures can be dangerous. Today we are going to give you some tips on how to protect your car’s interior, exterior, and everything under the hood.
To protect your car’s interior the easiest thing to do is park in the shade when you can. By avoiding direct sunlight, you will help keep your dash from drying and cracking. Another easy thing you can do is use a windshield sun protector and install seat covers. Sun protectors keep your car cool and prevent sun damage. Seat covers protect leather and fabric seats while keeping them cool as well.
For your car’s exterior you should wax your car and check tire pressure often. A layer of wax between your car’s finish and the sun’s ultraviolet rays is an affective way to help protect your car’s exterior. In the summer it is a good idea to wax your car on a regular basis to ensure max protection. Also, make sure to check your car’s tire pressure! Hot pavement and underinflated tires can be a dangerous combination. Summer is when most blowouts occur. Be careful, check often, and make sure you follow your car’s manufacturer recommended tire pressure.
Lastly, open up your hood and check pretty much everything. Your car’s cooling system, fluids, battery, air conditioning, etc. Check the belts and have the antifreeze/coolant drained. Check motor oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and brake fluid. Check the battery to make sure everything is functioning correctly. High temperatures and high accessory loads can cause your car’s battery to wear out and fail quicker. Check your air conditioning. If your car’s interior temperature is not cool enough, the refrigerant charge level in the air conditioning system might be low or there may be a more serious problem.
Protect everything during these hot summer days. Interior, exterior, and everything under the hood. Driving in the heat can be dangerous and the last thing you want is for your car to breakdown and fail. Use these pointers to help you and your car get through this hot summer!
